Parent CoachingParents are faced with many difficulties and challenges in today’s world. Work demands, increased academic workloads for children, peer pressure on children, and technological advances have contributed to the daily stress that seems almost inevitable in today’s society. Parent training is one method that empowers parents to more effectively manage their children’s behaviors and create a more positive home environment. Sessions are conducted either in individual or group format and aim to teach new skills based on principles of learning. Some of these skills include:

  • Proper access to attention
  • Planned ignoring
  • Use of reinforcement strategies
  • Effective use of time-out and response cost

Research has repeatedly shown these principles and strategies to be effective in treating difficulties associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and other psychologically based disorders; however, many of these techniques are not intuitive. At New York Psychotherapy and Neuropsychology Group, you  learn these skills and their application as it relates to your own particular life circumstances. We are here to support and guide you through the challenges that occur in raising a child.
